CHILE STILL ROCK SOLID...

vineyards situated in valleys and often rely on water from the Andes' melting ice caps

Chilean wines seem to have earned a reputation as been cheap and cheerful(good party wines) which is indeed true but it doesn't stop there and if you are willing to explore the mid-priced wines you can get superb value for money and wines that can rival most Old World Wines. The grape varieties are mostly french but in the last few years they have been experimenting with other varieties also. The climate is medittaranean  and unlike our fair isle quite dependable so as a consumer you can be pretty assured that there will be very little differentiation between vintages therefore making them a reliable choice.

Following the news of the earthquake in late February and the devastation that followed, Us, WOW Girls have been listening with concern to how this will effect the Chilean Wine Industry. It is the second biggest industry in Chile next to mining and will be a huge factor in rebuilding the country itself and people's lives. From reports we are hearing back from our friends in Chile it would seem that the wine industry was not hit as badly as some other industries however the infrastructure of the country is completely paralysed which will have a knock on effect on this vintage. This was a celebratory vintage marking the 200 years of independence for Chile and the advances they have made in their wine making techniques. It is important for us as a country to continue supporting their wine industry which will in turn hopefully help  get them back on their feet which is why we decided to choose Chilean wines for our fourth radio blog and with it the  €10-€15 price point to show how serious these wines can be...
