The name originates from the 16th century when the casks of sherry were used as ballast on the ships sailing to the Indies .
It was there they discovered how the wines benefited considerably in quality from the long sea journey and also the impact of the heat on the wine as they travelled across the equator. It is a blend of 2 quality mature wines, Oloroso and Pedro Xiemenaz.
Best drunk as a digestive with sweet pudding , creme brulee or chocolate dessert.
Colour. Amber, caramel,
Nose. Melted toffee, walnuts
Palate. Nuts, lovely weight on the palate not cloying, lovely balance with a fantastic finish that seems to linger on
The 375ml bottle retails €14.99 and one to have in the fridge as a little treat, it is 20% alc. So will last up to a month once opened. Delicious!
